Cervical Spondylosis

I am suffering from Cervical – we might have heard this expression many times in our day to day life. What exactly is this “Cervical”?

The wear and tear of bones and discs in the neck is collectively called cervical spondylitis or cervical spondylosis. General public often understands it by the simple name of “Cervical”. Though it is an age related problem, it can occur due to many other factors as well. In old age, the bones and discs get worn out due to the cumulative effect of wear and tear of daily life. This can lead to reduction in disc height, narrowing of the tunnels in cervical spine through which nerves are passing, thus pinching those nerves or spinal cord. The discs become thinner and weaker along with bone spur formation that pinch the important nerves in the neck. All this can lead to pain and stiffness in the neck as well as pain going down the arm or weakness in arms in some of the patients.

Cervical treatment or Cervical spondylosis treatment requires you to stick to a regular exercise routine and sometimes a gentle massage helps in treating cervical. Cervical Spondylosis specialist doctor usually recommends a conservative line of management to recover from this disabling illness. Cervical pain treatment sometimes may need the use of steroid injections injected locally into the neck area to help relieve pain. The patients are given muscles relaxants too so that there is no further harm and pain in the neck. Functional Muscle Training (FMT) that produces body movements in a regulated physiological manner is also beneficial in preventing the pain.

Cervical specialist doctor must be consulted for the treatment and preventing it from getting more serious.
